Goldenrod delights with long flowering time
The goldenrod (Solidago) belonging to the Compositae are mainly native to North America, but there are also native species in Europe and Asia. The bright yellow flowering perennials are a popular garden shrub due to the striking flower color and their long flowering period.
Goldenrod does not flower until late in the year
Goldenrod usually blooms between July and September, often even into October. The Canadian goldenrod (Solidago canadensis) is one of the so-called short-crops, whose flowering begins in late summer - then, when the days are shorter and the nights are longer.
Recommended ornamental varieties
In addition to the globally native wild forms of goldenrod, there are numerous hybrids, which were bred specifically for cultivation in gardens. These too are mostly from the USA. Tips
As all goldenrod grow very quickly by self-sowing, you should cut back the plants immediately after flowering to prevent seed formation.
