Plant Celosia in a peat-free, nutrient-rich potting soil with a slightly acidic pH of 6.0 to 6.5. The addition of lava granules or coconut fibers optimizes the permeability. Some expanded clay balls or potsherds over the bottom opening prevent waterlogging. How to cultivate the summer flower on the balcony:
A lovingly maintained plume is far too good to dispose of after only one season. Therefore, clean the plant in time in autumn in a bright winter quarters with normal room temperatures. On the windowsill, the flower continues unabated. Adjust the water supply to the reduced demand. In addition, Celosia only receives some fertilizer every 4 weeks until May.
Tips
The leaves and flowers of Celosia are rich in vitamin C and carotene. A plume is therefore not poisonous, but can be eaten without worries. The leaves complement each crisp-fresh salad, while the flowers decorate cold and warm dishes colorful.
