Basically, you do not need to worry about planted edelweiss, because in many cases the plant will retreat into its subterranean rhizomes. A pruning is not necessary, only the dead plant parts should be eliminated in the spring. In extreme frosts, you can cover the plant with fir or spruce branches, to simulate their natural winter protection - a thick layer of snow.

The wintering of an edelweiss in the pot, however, is not quite so easy, because here it is important to protect the delicate root system from freezing. Wrap the pot with an insulating foil or fleece, alternatively a jute sack filled with leaves serves its purpose. In addition, the pot is placed on a Styrofoam plate to keep from the bottom penetrating cold.
