Dahlias advance for earlier flowering
Since dahlias have to be overwintered in the cellar until spring, it takes time for the pretty flowers to enchant the garden with their flowers. A little bit faster it is, if you drive the Georginen, as dahlias are called, in the house.
That's how you drive dahlia properly
Plant dahlia tubers correctly
The pots need to be deep enough for the tubers to have enough space. Under the tuber, the soil layer should be about five centimeters deep. There must still be room for a three-centimeter thick layer of earth above the dahlia tuber.
The planter necessarily needs a vent hole, so that no waterlogging forms in the pot, which causes the tubers to rot.
Prefer in a warm, bright location
After insertion, place the pots in a warm, bright place. Well suited is the windowsill. With a south-facing window, you must make sure that the young shoots of the dahlia are not burned by the sun.
Ideal is a winter garden, but also a frost-free garden house with a large window is suitable for driving.
A good place to move forward is also a cold frame in the garden. Again, you should plant the Georgians in pots so you do not have to dig them out later and damage the plants.
After the Eisheiligen in the field
Dahlias are not hardy. Dehydrated dahlias may only be released into the field when frost is no longer to be expected. Even with light night frosts, the young shoots can freeze to death.
After the icy saints put the summer flowers in the prepared location - preferably with the whole pot ball.
On the balcony or the terrace, Georgians are allowed to go outside too. If frosts still appear, they can be placed with the pot in a sheltered place or get into the house.
Tips & Tricks
The preference of dahlias in the house, winter garden or cold frame protects the tender shoots from being eaten by snails. The pests prefer young shoots and leave larger stems in peace.
