Chilies can be frozen raw

Hot pods always fresh: freeze chilies

When the cold season comes, you must harvest all chili peppers in the garden or on the balcony. You can not consume the entire harvest in a timely manner? No problem, the sharp pods you can easily freeze.

Chili, peppers, hot peppers: what is what?

Both chilies and hot peppers are spicy paprika. Paprika is therefore the genus of plants, which are subordinate to the various species and varieties. There are different varieties of chilli, from the fiery spicy habaneros to the spicy-mild fire gulls. They are all excellent for freezing because they have a relatively low water content (for example, compared to sweet peppers).

Prepare chilies and deep-freeze

The freezing of chilies is particularly quick and easy, as they are on the one hand deep-frozen and on the other hand do not need to be elaborately prepared: If you do not want to chop the chili peppers, you have the opportunity to simply chill them in one piece.

Wash the chili peppers and dab them dry. Label freezer bags or deep freeze boxes with freeze date and contents. Optional: Chop up the chilies, remove the seeds and skins and cut the flesh into fine strips. Put the chili strips or the whole fruit in the prepared freezer. Close it carefully and place it in the *** freezer.

Process chillies directly from the freezer

Frozen chilies do not need to be defrosted before processing. Just put it frozen in the dish while cooking.
If you have chilled the chillies, remove the required amount from the freezer and put the rest back into the freezer. You do not have to consume whole chilies completely: cut the required amount off the frozen chilli with a sharp knife and put the rest back into the freezer. The chopping of frozen chillies has even an advantage: The pungency of the pods is not as strong on the skin when chopping as on fresh chilies.
Frozen chilies are stable in the freezer for about a year. Over time, they lose their aroma, which is why you should not lose track of your freezer by careful labeling and chilies should soon consume.
