Repot chili - the drainage makes the difference
Chilies are not only useful but also decorative plants for tubs, flower boxes and pots. So that they feel comfortable in the container, the drainage comes into focus when repotting. Other factors are also of interest.
Repot at times as a successful continuation of the cultivation
If the cultivation was successful, the chilies ideally continue their lush growth in their own planters. At the latest when their leaves touch permanently, the time is ripe for the move. Otherwise, they are threatened with adversity, such as rot or fungal infections.

Depending on the cultivated chili variety, the container should provide the root system with sufficient clearance. In terms of material, black plastic is just as well suited as breathable clay.
Step by step into the new home
When all the utensils are ready, the work can begin. In the first step, disperse the crushed, inorganic material on the bottom of the planter. So that the drainage is not blocked by substrate later, they spread the water- and air-permeable fleece over it.
Over the fleece fill a first layer of potting soil.Place the stuffed or piquated chili plant in the center of the jar. If you prefer the culture in the flower box, position the chilies at a distance of 30 cm to 40 cm from each other.
While inserting the remaining substrate, lightly press it with your fist. Thus, there are no cavities that impede root growth. Finally, a well-measured dose of irrigation water ensures that the chili grows quickly.
Casting edge prevents contamination
Prudent hobby gardeners always leave a casting margin of 5 cm free. It is really annoying to mop up the overflowed soil-water mixture from the ground after each watering.
If excess irrigation water collects in the saucer, it should be removed after 30 minutes at the latest. Otherwise it rises again due to the capillary effect in the root ball and causes waterlogging.
