Wild bananas can be grown from offshoots or seeds to beautiful plants. For growing seed, practical tips lead to successful results. Hobby gardeners experience this natural wonder close up in their own home.

With the sweet Essbanane the seeds were bred away step by step. The propagation takes place via offshoots, which are removed at regular intervals from the mother plant.
Very ripe bananas have small, brownish spots in the middle. These are quasi testimonies of the original banana seeds. These forms of culture are also called parthenopkarp.

Appearance of the seeds
In wild bananas, seed formation occurs after fertilization. In the berry many seeds are formed.
These are lenticular to irregularly spherical. Their black coloring is reminiscent of dark beans. Depending on the wild variety, they are larger or smaller than a one cent coin. In the trade a variety of seeds are available. The largest are in the Ensete glaucum (snowbands).
Successful sowing
The hard core shell of the seeds is filed with a file. Alternatively, this is done with sandpaper. Now they are given in lukewarm water for 2 to 3 days.
In these tropical conditions, small plantlets develop at a constant temperature between 25 and 30 degrees Celsius. A special focus should be placed on the choice of the plant substrate.
Rule of thumb:
The younger the seeds, the shorter the germination time. Hobby gardeners can count on about 2 to 4 weeks.
