Sow and plant artichokes
Artichokes are no longer a rarity in German gardens, and seeds are also available today in every hardware store or garden center. But when sowing and planting the exotic flowering vegetables so much is to be considered. Learn here how sowing is a success.
The right seed
You can either pick the seeds from the blossoms of your artichoke in autumn or you can buy seeds in the trade.When you buy seeds, you should make sure that the variety is somewhat hardy. Mostly here is a note: "limited winter hardy" or "winter with winter protection outside". Even harvested seeds should be kept cool and dry until sowing.

Artichokes are brought forward on the windowsill in February so they can be harvested in the same year. When sowing, proceed as follows:
Plant artichokes
After the icy saints, the artichokes can be put into the bed. Choose a sunny, sheltered location and provide enough nutrients in the soil by adding a good portion of compost before planting the artichoke.
Especially at the beginning, make sure that your artichoke is adequately supplied with water.
Tips
Do not harvest very small buds, but let them bloom. So you not only have a beautiful ornamental perennial in their garden, but can also collect seeds for propagation.
