Only very few apple trees in plantations and private gardens are seed-grown seedlings. Normally, yield varieties are increased by the copulation of branches on a growth pad.

The sense in the use of a base as a root and stem system for a noble rice is on the one hand in the propagation of a proven tree without changing the genetic characteristics. Seedlings grown from seeds carry the genetic material of two apple trees and are therefore rather unpredictable in their growth. Nevertheless, they can be used in the hobby garden as a base for the precious rice of an apple variety.
