Like many other plants, the carrion flower is considered to be quite easy to care for. Their flowers are usually star-shaped, but vary greatly in appearance depending on the species. Common to all is the scent-like smell that gives the plants their name.
This smell attracts carrion flies. They lay their eggs in the flowers and pollinate the plant. After a few days the carrion flower fades and the larvae of the flies starve to death. The most reddish yellow or brownish-colored flowers reach a diameter of up to 40 cm in some varieties, while others are only about five centimeters in size.
