Dry the yarrow properly
The withered inflorescences of the yarrow have dried form in the field until the spring into a beautiful look. But there are many good reasons to harvest and process different parts of the yarrow for controlled drying.
Choose the right time for the harvest
For best results, cut the shoot tips and inflorescences from July to September. Then the essential oils in the plant parts of the yarrow are present in a particularly high concentration. You should also choose a hot day during a dry season or midday for harvest. So it will be easier to dry the harvested shoots and flowers without the risk of mold.
Create perfect conditions for the drying process
You should avoid drying in a very hot oven or in blazing sun, as the essential oils in the cut yarrows may otherwise evaporate. You can either spread the material to be dried on paper or hang small bouquets upside down in a well-ventilated, dry place to dry. If possible, choose a partially shaded area with adequate air circulation. After drying, yarrow shoots should be gently crumbled between fingers and kept airtight in a dry container.
