How can you multiply the Waldsteinie?
The Waldsteinia ternata or three-leafed gold strawberry is particularly easy to multiply, as it forms abundant foothills. This is not possible with the Waldsteinia geoides (golden strawberry or Hungarian spice), but it is easy to multiply by splitting.
Propagation by seeds
Although the easy-care forest stones can be propagated by sowing, it is best to buy the seeds from specialist retailers. Collecting yourself from your own plants is too time-consuming. Especially when you consider that the plants can multiply in a different way much easier. However, you must also look in the retailer for the seeds thoroughly while young plants are offered abundantly.
Propagation by sharing
Multiplication by division is easily possible with all types of non-toxic Waldsteinia. Ideal times are spring or autumn. Dig out the plant and use a sharp spade to separate part of the roots. Replant this at the desired location.
Put some organic fertilizer in the planting hole like well rotted compost or horn shavings. Insert the root piece, cover it with fresh soil and press firmly. Then they water the roots well. In the first winter you protect the Waldsteinie from frost, later this is no longer necessary.
Propagation by offshoot
The three-leafed gold strawberry (lat. Waldsteinia ternata) does not actually have to multiply, because it does it all by itself. It forms copious streamers. These can be separated and replanted at any point. At the beginning, the young plants need some fertilizer and plenty of water. But avoid it necessarily that waterlogging arises, otherwise rotten the delicate roots.
Cut the waldsteinie
The Waldsteinie does not need a regular pruning. However, dead or sick parts of plants should always be removed in a timely manner. If you want to prevent your trefoil gold strawberry from spreading too much, then place a root barrier in the ground when planting. Alternatively, sting or cut regularly the rhizomes and above-ground foothills of the plant.
