How can I convert the old sandbox?
At some point, the children have outgrown the sandbox and is standing around empty-handed. It's time for a decision: should the sandbox be dismantled or used differently in the future? You could turn it into a flowerbed or a pond.
The sandbox as a flower or vegetable patch
If you want to use the sandbox as a flower or vegetable patch, then you only have to fill in the soil and compost and mix well. The ideal mixture depends on the plants that are supposed to thrive there. Some need more nutrients (in this case compost), others less. Also, the transformation to a herb bed is conceivable, the sand even useful.
The edge of the sandbox can be removed, but is a practical bedding limit. If you like so you can also garden sitting. Make sure, however, that all areas of the new bed are within easy reach, including the middle. You may still make a narrow path.
From the sandbox to the pond
Within a short time, you can transform a simple sandbox into a pond, at least if you use a pre-built pond form. These just put you in the "old" sand. The wooden border can be used at will for the design of the pond environment. Fill up soil around the pond. Here is room for the marginal planting.
If you prefer an individually created pond with pond liner, then plan a little more time for the conversion. But even in this case, you can use the existing sand well and include the border in the design.
The sandpit as a rock garden
The sand from the former sandpit is a good basis for a rock garden, because here are mainly plants that love dry soil. You just have to remove the wooden box / frame and spread the sand a bit. Then make the area with stones. Set accents or build a surround from it. Then plant your new rock garden.
