Rose - the leaves of the flower queen dry befittingly

The workshop of nature provides us with magical roses. Her richly colored petals are popular for decorations, as a bath or fragrance. To keep them long and never run out, they like to be dried. But how do you preserve fragrance and color?

Which varieties are suitable?

The entire rose family gives us petals that are best suited for this kind of preservation. However, if possible, they should come from fresh flower heads and smell intense.

Five different methods

Drying in the air

Spread the rose petals on absorbent kitchen paper. Put the leaves in a warm place. A sheltered outdoor space is optimal. Occasionally turn the leaves.

Tips

If the petals stuff softly, they have not yet lost all the moisture. You must continue to dry, otherwise there is a risk of mold.

Pressing between book pages

Few petals can also be dried by pressing. The advantage is that the dry rose petals remain flat.

With dry salt and detergent

Dry salt and dry detergents absorb moisture from the environment, and consequently from rose petals.

Put some dry salt or detergent in a large screw-cap. Spread a layer of petals, then desiccant, etc. The last layer should consist of the desiccant. Leave the container capped for four days.

Tips

If you dry petals again and again, the purchase of silica gel is worthwhile because it can be used over and over again.

Dry in the oven

Cost-effective and fast, the drying works in the oven:

Set the oven to 40 degrees Celsius. Spread a thin layer of sand on the baking tray. Sprinkle on the petals. Let the rose petals dry in the oven for 30 minutes. Check the result and extend the time by a few more minutes if necessary.

Leaves dried in the oven retain their fragrance and the wavy flower shape enchants.

microwave drying

The drying in the microwave works easily and above all fast.

Place a layer of kitchen paper on a flat plate. Spread some petals on top of it. Pass another layer of kitchen paper over it, followed by another plate. Put the plate in the microwave at maximum power for about 40 seconds.

durability

Dry rose petals stored in a sealed container are "indefinitely" durable. Of course, the ravages of time gnaw at them and they are losing more and more of fragrance. Open-lying rose petals get dusty over time and are regularly replaced by new ones.
