The buds of the peony are pretty, too, but if they do not work, it's annoying

Causes if the buds of peonies do not go on

It was only planted in the fall, the peony that robs gardeners of all things with their beautiful flowers breath. In spring, the anticipation of the abundance of flowers is great. But what happens if the buds do not open?

Cut flower buds do not open

You bought a bouquet of peonies? Now the flowers have been in a knot in the vase for days and seemingly do not want to blossom? Then you should try this trick: moisten the hand with lukewarm water and gently massage the buds. This helps the often sticking petals to unfold.

Another cause may be that the peonies were cut off too soon. In the specialized trade this happens rather rarely. But if you have cut the flowers yourself, it may be that time was too early. The flower buds should be bulging and flower color already visible.

The flower buds on the perennial remain closed

If the flower buds do not open, there may be several causes behind it:

Shoot buds that do not rise

If the sprout buds of the peonies do not work, there is a specific cause behind them in most cases. It is usually because the peony was planted too deeply.

Perennial peonies should be planted no more than 5 cm below the surface with their buds directly on the root area. Better is a planting depth of 2 to 3 cm.

Tips

Even a thick layer of mulch, for example in the course of a winter protection can be the cause of non-budding shoot buds. Remove the winter protection at the latest in the middle of March so as not to hinder the shootout!
