Oil pasture as a high trunk
Oil pastures are a species-rich genus of flowering plants from the family Olive Family. Most species grow shrubby, however, some varieties of winter-green oil pasture are also available as a high strain commercially.

Species list

Educate oil pasture to stem
Most of the available Elaeagnus varieties are offered as shrubs. Basically, these can be trained by targeted cut to a trunk with crown. For this one chooses a strong, straight shoot of the shrub and stubs it, while the other side branches are removed except for a few thinner ones. The side branches are also gradually cut out so that over time a trunk is formed. If that's too costly, you can fall back on a selection of the finished trees, the so-called "balls on trunk", which are available in varieties "Limelight", "Maculata", "Gilt Edge" in the online stores.
Tips
Despite good frost resistance, the young shrubs of the oil pasture need frost protection in severe winters. With increasing age the frost hardness increases.
