Seeds for propagation
Who does not attach much importance to identical characteristics, can also increase its Japanese Peony by means of seeds. But that's a tedious matter.
How sowing works:
1. Expose seeds to a several-week cold period (eg in the refrigerator).
2. Sow seeds 1 cm deep in seed soil.
3. Keep the substrate moist.
4. Put in a warm place.
5. Plant at a size of 10 cm at a suitable location.
Division in the fall
Many Japanese peonies are perennials. They recognize this by growing between 50 and 60 cm and retreating to the ground every autumn. If you have a Japanese peony that grows as a perennial, you can easily multiply!
Between October and November is the ideal time to share the perennial. Dig the perennial after pruning and clean the root area so that you can see the buds well.
Now divide the root piece into as many parts as you need. You can use a knife or a spade for this. It is important that each section has at least 3 buds. Then just plant, watering and done!
Tips
It can take several years for the freshly propagated specimens to flower for the first time. Be sure to include this in your calculations.
