Is the hibiscus poisonous?
The hibiscus has long since become indispensable in our gardens and apartments. Especially if small children or pets belong to the family, you want to make sure that the plants are not poisonous.
The hibiscus is not poisonous
Whether it's the garden marshmallow, also known as rose marshmallow, or the room hibiscus - the hibiscus does not contain any poisonous parts of the plant and is thus harmless to humans and animals. Exact information about it you get u.a. at the information center against poisoning Bonn.
An exception are a few rare wild species, some of which contain ingredients such as apple, lemon, hibiscus, ascorbic acid and oils and mucus.
Skin reactions after contact with the hibiscus
Nevertheless, multiple skin reactions have been observed after contact with a hibiscus. The reason for this is not the hibiscus itself, but possible sprays and fertilizers that can cause allergic skin reactions.
