The digging is probably the most unpopular work in the garden. Many, especially organic gardeners are doing without it. Nevertheless, the digging can not always be avoided. But with the right tools you can make digging much easier.
Tools for digging the garden
Which device you need for your garden depends on the size and the planned work. Spade and shovel should be available in every garden shed.
Spades come in many different forms
The spade is probably the most important device for digging up the garden. With its flat blade, the ground can be cut off well. But also the transplanting of bushes and trees, the raising of compost and many other work can be done with it. A spade may not be missing in any garden.
There are numerous designs of spades in the gardening market. For example, so-called lady godfathers are shorter and lighter than traditional spades.
The garden shovel
The garden shovel has a curved leaf. Its primary purpose is to carry larger amounts of soil, such as shoveling the excavated material onto a wheelbarrow.
The grave fork
The digger fork consists of several tines and serves to loosen the soil first and then grab with the fork under the plants. These can be very well get out of the ground, without causing the roots are tapped.
Cultivator and sow tooth
Cultivators consist of three prongs, the sow tooth only of one prong. These are pulled through the earth, loosening them in a gentle way. The intervention in the garden climate is not as drastic as when digging with the spade.
Motor hoe only for very large gardens

Tips
To create a new bed in the garden, you do not necessarily have to dig up the intended area. By covering with cardboard and mulch, garden beds can be created without much effort.
