Repot avocados in time
Although avocado seeds take a long time to germinate and develop shoots - once that's done, avocados are very vigorous plants. In order for them to thrive, they should be repotted regularly.
Spring is the best time
Basically, an avocado only needs to be repotted once a year. It is high time for a larger planter, when the old pot is already completely filled by the root ball and there is hardly any soil left. The optimal time for repotting is spring, when the winter break is over and the plant is to be prepared for the summer season. You can also take the opportunity right away to cut back your avocado or cut off excess shoots.
You need it for repotting:
Repot the avocado properly
Carefully remove your avocado from the old pot, placing the plant as far down as possible on the stem. Remove the pot and clean the root ball lightly from old soil residues. Now you can put the root ball in the already prepared new pot and fill it with fresh soil. You can safely remove the remains of the nucleus, as they are no longer important for the care of the plant. Instead, cover your avocado a little deeper with soil so that new roots can form. Then spray the soil and the leaves of the plant with water.
Tips & Tricks
Take the opportunity and prune your avocado before repotting. You can cut the top caps and cut back longer, verkahlte shoots. Your avocado will reward these efforts with bushier growth.
