Sweet apricots: that's how they really mature
Only under very specific conditions do hard apricots mature into sweet seductions. For purchased copies this is not possible. Learn how juicy fruits from your own harvest have better chances.
Green knowledge
Most apricot varieties finish their ripening process right at the harvest. However, they still ripen a little over the next two to three days. This effect is exploited in the trade of apricots. Farmers pick these shortly before maturity. When purchasing, they would then have to be mature.
In practice, long journeys are made during transport. The fruits are harvested many days before their actual maturity. In the end, they can never ripen.
Feel test:
Touch the fruits lightly. If these are still very hard, it is advisable to refrain from buying. Ideally, the pulp is already soft. This stage is ideal for immediate consumption. For about one to two days, you can store and enjoy ripe specimens in the vegetable compartment of the refrigerator without hesitation.
Tips for the apricot harvest
For the ambitious hobby gardener, an attentive eye is recommended. First, he should know his cultivated apricot variety very well. Odor, color and consistency are checked before harvesting. This test should already arouse appetite for immediate consumption.
After harvest, store the fruits at room temperature. Apricots should be airy for ripening and should not touch. So you benefit from a first-class taste. Pressure points are avoided.
Note:
When buying apricots, be sure to choose mature specimens. If this does not succeed, they are still suitable for baking or dehydrating.
